The Door Everyone Forgot to Lock

By 2025, cybercrime is expected to cost the world $10.5 trillion a year. That’s not a typo. Meanwhile, we’re still pretending that saving passwords in browsers and emailing private keys to ourselves is “fine.”

Enter Urkey—a self-custody app built on blockchain that lets users control their logins, credentials, files, and seed phrases without ever trusting a centralized server.

My job? Make sure people actually get it—and care enough to invest.

The Challenge

Urkey isn’t your typical crypto startup. It doesn’t shout “Web3” at every slide or drop buzzwords like confetti. But it does solve a massive problem.

The challenge:

  • Make a pitch deck that explains the tech without making eyes glaze over.

  • Keep the tone smart but not smug.

  • Help Urkey raise money without sounding like a TED Talk gone rogue.

The Strategy: Clarity Over Crypto-Jargon

I used the Pitchermann Blueprint (yep, my own secret sauce) which mixes storytelling psychology, investor logic, and just enough bravado to feel fundable.

Slide journey looked like this:

  1. Name the enemy: Centralized trust.

  2. Agitate the threat: $8T in cybercrime says hi.

  3. Reveal the hero: Urkey, a ZK-powered dApp with actual UX.

  4. Flex some muscle: Zero-knowledge tech, account abstraction, passwordless magic.

  5. Map the battlefield: Market size, opportunity, who’s still using spreadsheets.

  6. Build some hype: Chrome extension live, mobile/desktop incoming, users already poking around.

Design: Slick, Not Stiff

Think Apple meets Ethereum, with fewer gradients and more grown-up vibes.

Design choices:

  • Dark mode palette (because it’s cybersecurity, not Canva)

  • Sharp typography: Circular + Inter = elegant and readable

  • No unnecessary animations (we’re not pitching Pixar)

  • Clean, modular slides that look good on a VC’s MacBook or a Twitter screenshot

Results (a.k.a. Proof It Worked)

  • ✔️ Beta waitlist grew 3x post-deck

  • ✔️ Interest from multiple Web3 investors

  • ✔️ Invited to 2 blockchain startup accelerators

  • ✔️ Became a recruiting asset (nothing like a sexy deck to lure devs)

So What?

The deck worked because it didn’t try too hard.
It told a sharp story, explained serious tech without turning into a lecture, and made people say: “Wait, why doesn’t this exist already?”

That’s what you want: a pitch that makes investors nod, not nap.

TL;DR

  • Urkey = secure digital identity, no middlemen, no nonsense

  • I turned it into a pitch deck that raised eyebrows and capital

  • Design-forward, copy-clean, story-first

  • Results that speak louder than jargon
